COMPETITIONS 2026

At Magia 2026, the Finnish Championships in stage and close-up magic will be contested in the Solmu Mäkelä Magic Competition.

In addition, the traditional Finnish Championship of Restaurant Magic, organized by the Finnish Magicians’ Association, will take place at Hanasaari.

STAGE MAGIC

The stage magic category includes manipulation, general magic, stage illusions, comedy magic, mental magic, and parlour magic. Please note that a parlour act may be entered either in the stage or close-up category – the competitor may decide which setting suits the performance best. No separate prizes are awarded for subcategories; all acts compete within the same stage magic category.

The stage magic competition will take place at Hanaholmen’s Celsius Auditorium on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The venue features a stage with a raked audience and the possibility to use a front curtain. Spectators have easy access to the stage via stairs running across its full width. Basic lighting and sound equipment will be provided, though lighting options are limited. Please contact the organizers well in advance if your act requires anything out of the ordinary.

Headset and handheld microphones will be available, but we cannot guarantee a dedicated microphone for each competitor throughout the competition. It is also possible to connect your own remote-controlled audio device or microphone to the sound system.

There is a small backstage room next to the stage with direct access, but it cannot accommodate all competitors and their props. A separate waiting area will be arranged as close to the auditorium as possible. Competitors will move into the backstage area between performances.

The organizers reserve the right to make changes if necessary.

Registration for the competition opens in spring 2026.

CLOSE UP MAGIC

The close-up magic category includes card magic, micro magic, and parlour magic. Please note that a parlour act may be entered either in the stage or close-up category – the competitor may decide which setting suits the performance best. No separate prizes are awarded for subcategories; all acts compete within the same close-up magic category.

The close-up magic competition will take place in the Tetra Room at Hanaholmen on Saturday, 10 October 2026. Please note that the room does not have a stage, curtain, or raked seating. There is no theatrical lighting, and only general room lighting can be guaranteed. If your act requires specific lighting conditions, please contact the organizers in advance.

Headset and handheld microphones will be available, but we cannot guarantee a dedicated microphone for each competitor throughout the competition.

Music may be used in performances, and a sound technician will be available. It is also possible to connect your own remote-controlled audio device or microphone to the sound system.

There is no backstage area in the performance space, but a preparation area will be arranged as close as possible.

All performances will be projected onto a screen.

The organizers reserve the right to make changes if necessary.

Registration for the competition opens in spring 2026.
