COMPETITIONS 2025

At the 2025 Nordic Magic Championships, magicians will compete in three categories: stage magic, close-up magic, and restaurant magic. The restaurant magic competition will take place on October 10, 2025, and the stage and close-up competitions will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

English is recommended as the competition language due to the international nature of the jury. There is no separate junior category; all competitors will compete in either the stage, close-up, or restaurant magic category.

The stage and close-up categories primarily follow FISM rules. The most essential rules, rule changes and the FISM local competition scoring model are available in Finnish, English, and Swedish on this page. Please review the rules before registering!

The application form is open until 10 August 2025 at 15:00 (UTC+3).

RULES: STAGE & CLOSE-UP

STAGE MAGIC

The stage magic category includes manipulation, general magic, stage illusions, comedy magic, mentalism and parlour magic. Please note that a parlour magic act may be entered in either the stage or close-up category – the competitor decides which setting suits the act better. No separate prizes will be awarded for the subcategories; all competitors will compete within the same stage magic category.

The stage magic competition will be held at the Celsius Auditorium in Hanaholmen on October 11, 2025. The Celsius Auditorium features a stage and a tiered seating area. Use of a curtain is possible. Assistants, if any, will have easy access to the stage via stairs running across the full width of the stage. Competitors will have access to basic lighting and sound equipment – as well as a light and sound technicians. Please note that lighting options are limited. Contact the organizers well in advance if your performance requires anything special.

Headset and handheld microphones are available at the venue, but we cannot guarantee each competitor their own microphone for the entire competition. It is possible to connect your own remote-controlled music player or microphone to the sound system.

Next to the stage is a small backstage room with direct access to the stage. However, this backstage room cannot accommodate all competitors and their props, so the main waiting area will be arranged as close to the auditorium as possible. Movement to the backstage room next to the stage will occur between performances.

Rights to make changes due to unforeseen circumstances are reserved.

The application form is open until 10 August 2025 at 15:00 (UTC+3).

CLOSE-UP MAGIC

The close-up magic category includes card magic, micro magic, and parlour magic. Please note that a parlour magic act may be entered in either the stage or close-up category – the competitor decides which setting suits the act better. No separate prizes will be awarded for the subcategories; all competitors will compete within the same close-up magic category.

The close-up magic competition will be held in the Tetra Room at Hanasaari on October 11, 2025. Please note that the room has no stage, curtain, or tiered seating. There is also no theatrical lighting in the room, so only basic lighting can be guaranteed. If your performance requires special lighting conditions, please contact the organizers in advance.

Headset and handheld microphones are available at the venue, but we cannot guarantee each competitor their own microphone for the entire competition.

Use of music in the performance is allowed. A sound technician will be available for the competitors. It is also possible to connect your own remote-controlled music player or microphone to the sound system.

There is no backstage room in the performance space, but a preparation area will be arranged as close as possible to the performance space.

All performances will be projected onto a screen.

Rights to make changes to the venue due to unforeseen circumstances are reserved.

The application form is open until 10 August 2025 at 15:00 (UTC+3).

In the picture, the Tetra Room is furnished in a classroom style.

For the competition, the room will be arranged in a theatre style suitable for close-up magic. There will be no tables between the rows of seats.
